We have now stopped at South Pass and sadly almost half of the wagon train we ate in is breaking apart from us, they are going a different direction. They are going to California to find the gold in the gold rush. We had a large party today in the evening to celebrate the time we spent together. And we wished everyone the best luck moving forward off to Califonia. We sang, we danced, and we listened to the music all night long! We need to stay here for a couple days so we could all catch up on our sleep!
Today we were 10 miles west of fort hall. WE were sleeping and there were three people on guard and they were about to fall asleep when they saw a Native American out of the corner of his eye. He woke up and left his gun there with the other people. He then walked up to the Native American the Native American The native American told us that he cared about our people and he wanted us to have a bag. We took the bag and we brought it back to our campsite then when he got back he decided to open up the bag and he opened up the bag and when he did that he saw something there were a bunch of flashing lights and all of the sudden we were back in 2014 and we were back with our families and What was in the bag was the time machine we used to go forward in time and he gave it to us so that we could go back home to our families.
Today we got to another fort, Fort Laramie. We are also 1/3 of the way away. Waho! Luckily we didn't buy that snake oil because now we got to to get some fresh oxen. We got well rested oxen fro $50. The guy will take our oxen and give us good oxen. He will then give our oxen to new people next week when there rested. This idea was really smart. We had to sell some stuff so we can buy new stuff. We also let some stuff go so we can have our oxen go faster. When we were there we heard that someone died when his wagon fell on him. I don't think I will ever get used to all the deaths. I was excited to get some mail when I was there.
Today in Oregon trail simulation we visited chimney rock. Most people including me was better than courthouse rock. People were trying to climb it and draw it. The people who try climb did try to climb it didn't make it, it's 400 feet tall! This reminded me of my parents chimney back east. We have a while to go 'til we hit Fort Laramie. I can't wait until we can stay in the big fort Laramie to rest.
Today we stopped in Fort Caspar. A couple of bad things happened while we were there. Hubert Koswalski got sick. But when we stopped in Fort Caspar we stocked up on quinine so that we could treat him. We don't know what illness Hubert has but we think it is from either tainted water, or mosquitoes. We think that it is from mosquitoes because he has a high fever and that is one of the symptoms of malaria which is what we treated him for. Hubert's fever isn't really going down but the cold cloths and boiled water are making him feel a lot better. There has been a lot of rain on the trail, and this is making the mosquitoes really bad which is another reason we think that his illness is from the mosquitoes.
Today there where many problems the main was that Vasilous Coastas got sick, he got Cholera. We didn't know what to do until we ran into a a guy selling snake oil after a little thinking we deiced not to buy is because there was a note that said it was useless and won't help just kill more people next to that note there was a grave. So after that and that we nearly spent 50 dollars (25) pelts we deiced that we need to be more careful. We also have a new leader that I hate. He made use all say that we wanted to have these very nice people kicked out of the gang. I could not believe that we just let this man take over or wagon train. Another thing that happened was that we heard some rumors that the wagon train ahead of use was swept out and from a sickness. Think of it like this. That whole wagon train on the picture up there was wiped out from one sickness. So overall today was a big waste and we all got scared and some people even got sick. So today was scary and I hope the next few days wouldn't be like this anymore.
Four days ago we ran into a giant herd of bison numbering in the thousands! There were so many that we had to stop and the bison delayed us an entire day. Some men wanted to shoot the bison but then the others decided to leave them be because of the possible stampede that could happen and destroy the entire wagon train. We finally got to the first fort and we took a while to decide what we wanted to get but then we finnaly found out by voting with our wagon train and we decided to get:
1 shovels 1 barrel of bacon 1 barrel of flour 1 heavy rope 2 Iron kettles to trade with Natives. 7 bars of soap (to help fight germs) Today we had to cross the Kansas river to get to the other side. There were several options that we could do to get across the river. There was a ferry man that could take our wagons across for $1 a wagon. Or we could have walked all of them across. Our oxen would swim across first, by them self. Our plan was to have the most important wagons go across with the ferry, and the others go across the river be them self. When we were executing our plan, the three wagons that went across on the ferry for $3 all made it across safe and sound. Hooray! But when the first wagon that got walked across went to get to the other side went, the wheel hit a rock and spun all awkward directions and spun around. The current pushed the wagon down the river, and all of the items in that wagon fell out! We lost 1/6 of our items! The only good thing was now had a wagon to put our sick and injured. While the wagon was spinning, two people were in it. So when it went down the stream, the people fell out with all of the items in it too! They broke their arms. Poor Sven and Nikon. Their poor arms! Now they can't help for a while and have to sit in our new, spare, empty wagon. Our medic, Jade, fixed them up for free, so good thing we had her!
Today we went through a lot of dust! It was getting in our faces, and bothering the animals. It was hard to keep moving with dust blowing in our eyes! Even though the dust was in our eyes and face we walked 15 miles on day 7. It was annoying to find out our way through the Trail. The front must have been hard to control. It was hard to herd the cattle today also. Today Elias got a blister while we were walking. We tried to come up with a solution, and decided that he would keep the foot moist during night and during the day walk. The blister got worse, and he decided to ride in the wagon for the next couple days. We felt bad, but eventually the blister got better. He is on the trail again! Today it was hard to control our animals. The oxen were getting distracted on the road, and the sheep kept running off, and we had to retrieve them. Between the oxen and the sheep, we had a lot more work today then usual. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
